I have a problem whereby my mp3 files are on a Linux partition which is organized something like this
/mp3
/mp3/Artists
/mp3/Artists/A
/mp3/Artists/A/(Artist)
/mp3/Artists/A/(Artist)/(Album)
/mp3/Artists/B
/mp3/Artists/B/(Artist)
/mp3/Artists/B/(Artist)/(Album)
/mp3/Audio Books
/mp3/Classical
/mp3/lost+found
/mp3/midi
/mp3/tabs
/mp3/Video
and so it goes.
Now, the left menu will look like
Artists
Audio Books
Classical
lost+found
midi
tabs
Video
I have to specify /mp3 as the music folder otherwise I did /mp3/Artists separately, I'd get A-Z mingled in with everything else and it'd look pretty crappy, to be honest.
What I don't want are people to be able to see midi or tabs, for example.
The ideal solution would be to have a list of excluded directories. For example, I would list /lost+found and /tabs into an interface similar to the music directory list.
Another option would to be place a hidden file into the directory for it not to be displayed. for example .nosonic would stop the directory from showing up.
Personally, I would like to be able to have /mp3/Artists listed as the music directory and the name that I give it displayed on the left side.
For example if I enter Music /mp3/Artists then the left column would show Music and clicking would show everything under /mp3/Artists - if that makes sense?
In the music folders, whic

Re: Different ways of handling files.
Ah ok cool. Thanks. I saw something about it coming soon, guess I didn't get far enough down the documentation chain.
Is there any chance of making it also check for a dot file (.madsonic_exclude.txt)? I like to have these "meta files" as I'll call them hidden so when I run scripts to produce lists I don't have to worry about the odd file getting in from time to time.
Thanks,

I tried this and it doesn't work.
[root@wibble mp3]# cat madsonic_exclude.txt
Instructional
private
rtorrent
scripts
tabs
Unsorted
utorrent
midi
lost+found
Books
however the index still shows lost+found and midi for some reason.
Also, a user can use a direct URL to access a hidden directory
For example, if I go here:
http://192.168.168.1:4040/main.view?id=15
It will still display the hidden "tabs" directory. So it's not really hidden, but obscured, leaving the administrator with a false sense of security.

Re: Different ways of handling files.
hi there,
try ...
1. Rescan
2. Cleanup Database
3. Restart Service
4. Rescan
This should remove the old entries from DB to prevent URL hijack

OK that seemed to fix it. The overnight scan removed them and I did a clean up to be sure.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I really appreciate your responsiveness. I'm looking forward to the next release and offering suggestions to make Madsonic even better
