Question regarding licensing

I am currently a Madsonic 5 user, and I use my own DDNS and port forwarding.

I just installed Madsonic 6 to test it, and I see all these posts and warnings about licenses.

As a user that does not use the madsonic domain, will I still need to license to access my server via a mobile app?

EDIT: Just for asking I was given a Madsonic License. Will it expire? Will it always be free for the asking? My original question about using Madsonic with my own domain still stands.
