Cannot access remotely (inside or outside LAN)

Unread post by loctones »

I'm sure this is a fairly common issue, but I can't figure it out. I have Madsonic working well on my local machine. I can access it through localhost:4040 with no issues. However, I can't get to it from any other computer on my network. Here are the details:
--Revision: Cannot connect with either 5.0.3820 or 5.0.3800
--Settings->Network->Madsonic URL: 192.168.0.45:4040. I can ping 192.168.0.45 from other machines on my network.
--Madsonic Control Panel->Server Address: localhost:4040. I'm not sure if the 'localhost' info is a problem or not. I feel like it should be showing my computer's static IP address.
--Madsonic Control Panel->Context Path: /. I've tried other context paths and they don't seem to make any difference
--Installation Package: Windows 64 bit package
--Operating System: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

I'm at a loss as to what to look at next. I've spent hours tinkering with settings, but I haven't found the correct configuration yet. Any ideas?

Make an exception in the Windows firewall on your server. That does the trick!

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Windows Firewall

Click "Advanced Settings"

Select Inbound Rules/New Rule

Open port 4040

Got it. Thanks very much! I upgraded to Win7 recently and don't have much experience with the firewall. We're cooking dinner and my daughter just thanked me for the good music I was playing. :D
