Madsonic Newsletter 02/2021

Unread post by Madsonic »

Dear Madsonic Community :!:

I am very excited to announce that Madsonic development continues. Unfortunately, the last year was not easy, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there was not much time for new developments.

The progress in the 7.x branch will be carried over and published as Version 8.x in the first half of 2021. At the same time prototyping and development of the new version 9.x is taking place.

We want to start over with the best of Madsonic in a new technical, state of the art development.

some Madsonic 9 todos
  • system compliant: x86/x64/ARM/Apple M1
  • Java compliant: 8/11/15
  • HTML5 compliant
  • multiformat streaming
  • metadata offline feature
  • external databases
  • new database schema
  • OpenAPI compliant
  • Swagger-UI support
  • dynamic playlists
  • music channel function
  • music chart function
  • many more ...

So glad to hear Madsonic is still alive! I really hope everything goes as planned and we get a full release of server and client soon.
Whatever happens, please, please, please keep us all up to date as often as you can.

I'd love to see some integration with Discogs for metadata and artwork too.

Is there a chance to resurrect the Android app? The old one works perfectly at my old phone but unusable at my new phone.

PS: you can contact me if you need help with CI and Docker.

Here's my 2 cents.
I have been a .NET Developer since 2001 and I have dabbled in Android development 10 years ago and recently.

I know that there is/was an existing Madsonic Android app which was developed several years ago. I'm sure that as you are going through the old code you are hitting spots that make you question what you were thinking back then. You've probably considered scraping all of the code and starting over but that's just crazy talk and you continue slogging through the old code.

Anyway instead of trying to revive the existing Android app what about partnering with https://github.com/ultrasonic/ultrasonic which is actively being developed?

I'm thinking that there could features developed that work specifically with the Madsonic server or something like that.

Thanks

Really hyped

I'm still relatively new to the madsonic fanbois but I do really appreciate it, it helped me rediscover my music library

Just an idea for a feature: the ability to order playlists by subfolders, would be amazing

You just gained a paid subscriber

Is there any info about a release date yet?
Will there also be a connection to NAS systems again?

How and when will it continue?
Some information would be very helpful for everyone.
Apart from the monthly debit, nothing happens!

A pretty lateral move off of Madsonic would be to Airsonic Advanced https://github.com/airsonic-advanced/airsonic-advanced - It is in active development with frequent snapshot updates https://github.com/airsonic-advanced/airsonic-advanced/releases .

If you're looking for a more modern solution, you can also check out Navidrome https://www.navidrome.org/ . The primary focus at the moment for Navidrome seems to be a much better back-end and a focus on the API, although there is a rudimentary UI.

My thoughts exactly, I've been using Airsonic instead anyway as I'm tired of paying for something that is continually promised but never delivered. I've just migrated to Airsonic-Advanced so will continue with that.

Madsonic will have to come up with something pretty spectacular and pretty quick to have any chance of me coming back.Enough is enough.

It's a pity that you don't get an answer to my question about the release of the new version. I have now stopped the automatic payment.

Thank you for posting this! I am actually giving Airsonic Advanced a try, so far so good! I am guessing the Masonic project is dead because of the lack of news and feedback. Really disappointing, but I am excited to get Airsonic Advanced up and running!

When my Madsonic license expired earlier this month, I jumped to Airsonic Advanced. I've been a long-time Madsonic user, even before licensing, but in the end I was having to work around too many issues.

The Madsonic development pattern is to annually post a list of plans, and then nothing much until the next year.

I still use Madsonic primarily because of it's flexibility and Windows installation, but I have a lifetime Plex license that I may start using?

Happy Holidays.
