Slow start to song playback (Randomly)

Unread post by mp3sponge »

This might just be me , or everyone having the problem and not saying much about it , but when I click to play a track , I sometimes get instant playback (which was the way it always was in the v5 of the software) , or i get the little "caching" arrows going for 1-15 seconds before playback starts. This happens when I'm local network or remotely playing.

Randomly play a track instantly , other times with long delays.

Here are the system specs and details from Madsonic .

System Spec :

Gigabyte ITX board
Intel i7-4790k CPU
16gig ram
SSD 120gig (newly installed)
data drives are all WD Black 2tb (in good working order)
Windows 7 64bit w/all updates installed - Freshly installed with no additional software (this server is the systems only purpose)
Library Size : [3/21/16 9:19 AM] INFO MediaScannerService Scanned media library with 449289 entries.

Version MADSONIC 6.1.8120.eec5b6f.20160304.1253 - IP address [192.168.0.2]
REST MADSONIC REST API v2.2.0, SUBSONIC REST API v1.15.0
Server jetty/8.y.z-SNAPSHOT, java 1.8.0_73, Windows 7 6.1 Service Pack 1 (amd64) (153.5 MB / 476.0 MB)
Size: Database: 709MB, Thumbs-Cache: 46MB, LastFM-Cache: 2MB, Lucene-Cache: 57MB
Spring.Framework v3.2.16, Spring.Security v3.2.9, HyperSQL DataBase v2.3.3
Transcoder ffmpeg version N-78843-g1c7e2cf (29.02.2016)

Any ideas , tips or tricks would be much appreciated.

i can only 2nd that. i was actually complaining about the very slow response times for some years now. it seems to be a database / db integration problem. at least that's when it get's slow for me - any time madsonic (subsonic used to have that prob as well, when i still used it) needs to access the database. it is ridiculous, constant new features but basic issues can't be solved. your hardware is way better than mine (amd athlon x4, 8gb ram, asrock mobo, 16 x 3tb wd green media drives, 2 x 3tb parity, 2 times 500gb cache - running an unraid server with arch=madsonic latest release as sole software on it)the hardware is surely not the prob. the cpu load barely ever goes above 25%, ram use never hits more than 50%. as soon as it comes to db queries it becomes slow as molasses going uphill on a winterday. so my guess (for a long time now - check my posts here as well as on subsonic forums) is, it is a database implementation issue. i am not a coding guy (i can barely fix some css issues on websites), so there is nothing really i can do to fix it. i am just wondering why nobody ever seems to address the issue. i can live without new features for a couple release versions, just make it fly! i admit that i have a very large database, close to 2million songs in various formats and about 1800 movies, but that can't be an excuse for slow data access, many applications manage way more information in db's way faster.

cheers, L
