HDTV Playback on HTML5 stops frequently

Unread post by GJ51 »

OK - I've been working on testing HTML 5 playback on 5.0.3510.beta3 for a while and keep running into some issues. Everything works fine with the flash setup, but like others, I'd like to see if I can get the HTML5 setup working for forward compatibility.

Everything seems to be in order but video playback halts every few seconds even on lower resolution video and task manager shows that CPU loads are not an issue. Same videos under the flash setup run smooth without any buffering. The videos run for 2-3 seconds then freeze for 10-20 seconds and then repeat that cycle.

Version 5.0.3510.beta3
Server Apache Tomcat/7.0.39, java 1.7.0_21, Windows Server 2008 R2 (96.0 MB / 178.4 MB)

EDIT: I've noticed that when you hover on the JW Player bar it shows on the right "Infinity:NaN:NaN" which makes me think that maybe the player or ffmpeg is not getting a reading on the track length and the process may be stopping and starting because it can't tell where the end of the file is?? I've tested both versions of JW 6.10 - both exhibit the same behavior. Any video at 1280x720 or higher has problems, lower resolution videos up to 6408x480 are OK.

I'm still investigating the problems I've been having, but it just may be that it's all related to a drive that just went bad on my storage server. I replaced the drive and will do some more testing soon.

No joy. I did a clean install of original old fashioned Subsonic and set the media folder to the recorded TV up on my HTPC which is a different library from my archive on my storage server. Same problem. Video is blurry and clearly NOT the HDTV quality originally recorded and that plays just fine through WMC.

Therefore, something has changed somewhere that I still can't identify. It's either the latest version of Java or ffmpeg or something else I haven't thought of yet. Either way this is not good and I'm a bit frustrated after several weeks of testing and I still can't get any version on any of my servers to read HDTC properly after having had this work well for a couple years.

I'm a bit surprised that there aren't more reports of this happening.

Whatever is causing the problem the one consistent problem is that the resolution is being misread. I have folders with series episodes that report some episodes correctly at 1920X1080 and play fine yet other episodes report as 200X113 and look like that when played back. Why some are reported and play correctly and others don't is anyone's guess. It's not only wtv files but I see the same problem with other video formats whenever resolution exceeds 6480X480. I put a screen capture below so you can see the problem. All recordings shoe they were recorded at more than 15000kbps, but half read as 1920X1080 and the rest read 200X113.

None of it makes any sense to me. I've been using Subsonic to playback video since before it was made a part of Subsonic as a standard feature and never saw this before. Oh well, it's still great for music. :D
