Bit the bullet, will be getting Android phone this weekend

Unread post by gurutech »

Looking for some advice on what apps to get that are comparable to iphone, and if it's worth "root"-ing the Android (Samsung S3) like I did with jailbreaking my iphone.

Which Subsonic App is the best for this phone?

Any other tips?

my opinion: it's more worth to root an android than an iphone, you will get more flexible!

For your new Android the best is the Madsonic App ;)

I've rooted my S3 and was very happy I did. It gives you a lot more control over the phone and allows you to load many cool custom roms to get the look and feel you want rather than just being stuck with what your provider wants.

Phone is rooted... had a few problems doing so initially, then figured out I had to shut down my VM's first (somehow they were conflicting with the USB port the phone was connected to...)

Anyway... where can I get some cool APK files that don't force me to "take surveys" to download the file?

And I do have the Madsonic app already!

There are many low cost and free apps in the app store. You can also get all the Subsonic and Madsonic apk's for free. I use a dropbox account to dump downloaded apk's into and then pick them up on the phone app for installation. Also you might browse QBking77.com for S3 specific tips and app recommendations. http://www.qbking77.com/category/develo ... laxy-s-iii

When I find my phone (it's around the house somewhere) I'll look for what else I have on there that I use.

I know this is an old post but I prefers dsub and you can download the .apk for free from the subsonic forums

Dsub is a great app. Well supported by the developer. I use both the Madsonic and Dsub on my Note 2. I also have the stock Subsonic app but don't use it much as it seems too far behind the curve keeping up with known issues. I've run into too many things where the Madsonic app and Dsub work fine but the Subsonic app just rolls over.

I know you can get the app free, but for the few bucks it costs to show your appreciation to the dev, I think you'll feel good about making the small donation if you really use it a lot. the more we support the efforts of these guys, the more likely they will continue to support their product.

gonna gravedig this post a bit just to say my opinion on Subsonic apps.

1. official subsonic - this app is where it all began, but has since been left in the dust by both Madsonic and dSub, it's not a bad app at all but it's a bit bland after trying the other apps available.

2. dSub - this is a fantastic app, and certainly an upgrade to the official subsonic app, I used it until i purchased the Madsonic app to give it a shot about a week ago.

3. Madsonic - this app has everything dSub has and more, the main reasons i use it over dSub is that it has Shuffle mode and the ability to do a server refresh, in my opinion these are the only 2 major features that dSub lacks but hey MadSonic costs less then dSub in the play store, so i would highly recommend giving it a shot if you are considering one of these options.

Best part is that you can run all three on your phone at the same time.

Not as much any more, but I used to have each one configured slightly differently and purposed for which one worked best with a given connection and for what kind of media I was playing.

Just goes to show how important open market competition is to the benefit of consumers.

I agree with you assessments above and would also like to commend both devs for how well they support their product and their users.
