Edit: (06/16/2020) I downgraded from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 18.04 and most of my problems with Madsonic disappeared. I suggest you do the same. Preface: I'm running Madsonic 5.0 so this may or may not be of use. I just upgraded my server software from Ubuntu 16.04 with kernel 3.14.0-44 to Ubuntu 20...

Which newer version did you try?
Version 6 should work the way I described. You install version 6, then replace the war file with the one from your version 5 install.

If I read what you wrote, it looks like to purged Subsonic then put Subsonic back on.
Then you installed Madsonic on top of that.
Why not just install Madsonic on its own?
