Default Video Bitrate
Default Video Bitrate
It would be really nice for users with less powerful hardware if they could adjust the default video bitrate for video play back, impose per user caps, and make the drop down "sticky" so that if you change it when you re log onto MS it's the same as when you last used it.
Similar to what you did with making the Row/Column display adjustable.
Thanks a bunch.

Re: Default Video Bitrate
Yes, the more I thought about the issue the more important i thought it was to make it clear how nice it would be if it was another parameter that was easily selectible by the user rather than just being a hardcoded change to some other value.
I think that would be more consistent with the overall design philosophy that is making Madsonic popular. I think continuing that trend toward making every feature user accessible so that MS can be easily tailored to the user's liking will lead to its continued success.

Re: Default Video Bitrate
Clear this should be reworked!
How is the situation for you now and what should be? little Feedback
Default Value for all?
Admin Limit min/max.?
User/Admin can set. min/max?
How can i help? What can be improved?
best regards

Re: Default Video Bitrate
That's an even trickier question as you pose it.
As is the default is 1000kbps set arbitrarily by Sindre originally I suppose to try and hit a sweetspot that would work for most users.
Given the wide range of hardware that can run SS I can't imagine how he determined the default bitrate. My primary Subsonic server runs dual quad core Xeons with 16 GB ram and can handle 3 Blueray videos simultaneously at 5000kbps. Obviously my Raspberry Pi would probably be lucky if it didn't choke at 500.
So there's no one size fits all - then of course an Admin may want free reign for himself yet wish to restrict the default and the max available to other users.
I think the first step would be to allow the admin to set the default. Then perhaps a way to allow the admin to set the default and the max available for each user group.
Finally, I would like to see setting above 5000. I'm pretty sure I can handle much higer bitrates on my server and I have a lot of recorded TV that is recorded at 15k or higher. I'm not sure what my max recorded rate is but I'd like to see options to go perhaps as high as 20k and an "Unlimited" setting if that's possible.
Hope that gives you some ideas. In general I think I need to look a bit more at options settings and the layout for users and groups to see if there's ideas for a cleaner interface.
One thing that Glenn Sullivan and I agree on - maybe even the only thing LOL - is that the Enable Subsonic Premium Services would be better placed on the Network settings screen where the average user would most likely look for it to enter his Subsonic Vanity name, perhaps between the auto config router section and the domain name entry block.

Re: Default Video Bitrate
if like in your settings you have an access tab, if you as an admin could select the default for you, kbps
just a thought
currently 1000
but would be faster for all at a 200 default and the pull down remains, for faster users, just makes it crazy for me to look at the java

if a menu was avail to select a default of desired speed would workMadevil wrote:Clear this should be reworked!

Re: Default Video Bitrate
hello again
I would really like to have these two functions in terms of bitrate.
1: for example, user default bitrate (starts to play) 500-1000kbitps user max bitrate (the most the same user can have) 2000kbps
ups just saw that you had put a picture of almost what I mean on the first point
2: if one user is online max = 10000kbps if two users online max = 5000kbps 3 users max = 3300 kbps, and so on.
/ Sincerely Chali
